Sensol covers the entire surface of the crosswalk with modular panels that are designed to be 2ftx2ft. The panels are overlaid or inset on the road, where they will have a maximum of 1 inch elevation over the existing street.
How does it work?
A system of sensors detect anything that passes over them and a computer distinguishes what is a pedestrian and what is not, then collecting the data and illuminating pedestrians. The spotlighting effect draws driver attention to the pedestrians as compared to current solutions which draw attention to the signage.
The crosswalk is covered in anti-slip material which doubles as haptic signs for the visually impaired. The passive detection means the ADA community doesn't need to long press a button to cross safely. Ramps extending out to the sidewalks ensure no elevation change hinders any group form using the crosswalk.
The crosswalk will know when a panel is damaged and alert maintenance. Maintenance which is done by local transit agencies is performed quickly and easily by replacing the damaged panels with new ones which we provide agencies.

The crosswalk is installed on top of the existing road or installed inset, level with the road, depending on whether it is part of a repavement project or not. The actual installation involves bolting and adhering a support structure in which the modules can be easily placed and removed from.
